O Yashoda! You have a pledge on the name of Shyam [Krishna], come along and see the mischieves of this small and innocent Krishna at my home.||1||
I tolerate the damage of milk-wastage, and I don't say anything about it; for Vraj is the only place for dwelling. But how do I afford the replacement of utensils on a daily basis¹? I don't have a treasure locked in my home.||2||
If we plead Him to not disrupt our resources, He laughs on us; and if we get annoyed then He scolds us with big angry eyes. How has your son learnt such behavior at such a small age?||3||
Right now, He is sitting all curled up in a corner pretending sanguine. O Krishna, the Lord of Tulsidas, should I tell [to Your mother] what you said in the morning?||4||
Notes:
¹ Krishna as a little boy was very naughty. He used to steal butter and break many pots and utensils in everyone's home. However, this has an essence of devotion or bhakti and can be explored in detail in the Shrimad Bhagvat Puran.
