Clouds, filled with pride, came over the village of Vraja. Having thought that there has been immense disrespect, Indra (Sureśa) had sent them with anger.[1] Terrible lightening was shining in all the ten directions. The sky became dark and full (due to swollen clouds). Incited by strong winds, dark clouds were roaring loud and moving fast.[2]
Again and again, lightening bolts fell down; (ice) stones and large raindrops were showering from the clouds. Due to cold and fear, all the cows, children, Gopī, and cowherds started calling -- [3] ‘O Balarāma, O Kṛṣṇa! Save us in this terrible situation that has fallen upon us. Nanda opposed (the prayers of) Indra based on the strength of You two.[4]
Having heard this, the lion-like child of Nanda (Kṛṣṇa) smiled and lifted Mount Govardhana on His hand. Tulasīdāsa says that Maghavan (Indra) did what he could, and left with the loss of pride.[5]
