Mṛtyuñjayastotram

I take the support of Candraśekhara (Śiva), Whose made Mount Meru as a bow, Whose home is at the peak of silver mountain (Kailāsa), Who made the Nāga as a bow-string, Who made Viṣṇu into a fiery arrow, Who burnt the demon Tripurāsura in a flash, and Who was adored by the houses of Tridaśa. What can Yama (death) do to me?[1]

I take the support of Candraśekhara (Śiva), Whose dual lotus-feet is decorated with fragrance and flowers from five-trees, Who burnt the body of Kāmadeva by fire born out of the forehead-eye, Whose robe is smeared with ash, Who destroys the universe, Who is Bhava, and Who is unchanged. What can Yama do to me?[2]

I take the support of Candraśekhara (Śiva), Who made His upper-cloth out of the best skin of an intoxicated-elephant, Whose lotus-feet is revered by lotus-seated Brahmā and lotus-eyed Viṣṇu, and Who holds a matted-hair wetted by the waves of River Gaṅgā. What can Yama do to me?[3]

I take the support of Candraśekhara (Śiva), Who is the friend of Kubera (Yakṣarāja), Who cut-off the eyes of Bhaga, Who is adorned with snakes, Who beautiful left-half body is awarded by the daughter of Himālaya (Pārvatī, Who has poisonous-blue throat, and Who holds an axe and a deer. What can Yama do to me?[4]

I take the support of Candraśekhara (Śiva), Who makes His ear-hoops by coiling snakes (the supreme coil), Who rides a bull, Whose splendor is eulogized by Nārada and other great sages, Who rules over the world, Who destroyed Andhakāsura, Who is the immortal Kalpa tree for refugees, and Who ends Yama. What can Yama do to me?[5]

I take the support of Candraśekhara (Śiva), Who is the medicine for disease like metempsychosis, Who takes away all the obstacles, Who destroyed the sacrifice of Dakṣa, Who is the cause of three-qualities, Who has three eyes, Who gives the fruits of devotion and liberation, and Who annihilates all the vices. What can Yama do to me?[6]

I take the support of Candraśekhara (Śiva), Who endears devotees, Who is offered treasures, Who is unharmed, Who has pale apparel, Who is the ruler of everything born, Who is beyond everything, Who is immeasurable, Who is the best, and Who is protected by Soma, Varuṇa, Nabha (Sky), Hutāśana (Fire) and Soma (Moon). What can Yama (death) do to me?[7]

I take the support of Candraśekhara (Śiva), Who is causing the world, following that Who is again ready to nurture the world, Who is then destroying various worlds and living beings in all other worlds, Who continuously plays in this manner, and Who is surrounded by Nandī and other tormentors. What can Yama (death) do to me?[8]

Wherever this eulogy written by Death-feared Mārkaṇḍeya (son of Mṛkaṇḍa) is studied in the proximity of Śiva, there is no fear of death at that place. Candraśekhara indeed gives complete age, freedom from illness, all the wealth, respect, and salvation without an effort to him.[9]
