Lakṣmyaṣṭakam

I bow to Lakṣmī, Who is supreme bliss, Who is dear to Mukunda, Who bestows luck, Who is worthy of praise from demi-gods, Who is the grace of One Which has Garuḍa (snake-killer) as a vehicle (Viṣṇu), Who is the ruler of demi-gods, Who is the abode of wealth and splendor, Who is fire for the forest-like mundane existence, and Who is the only support for the worlds.[1]

I take shelter of Lakṣmī, Who is supreme bliss, Who lives in the lotus-forest, Who holds a lotus in hand, Who is pure, Who is known as Śriyā, Who has all the grace, Who is the daughter of Ocean, Who is the divine-nectar, Who bestows all the wishes, Who bestows knowledge, and Who is the only support for the worlds.[2]

I bow to Lakṣmī, Who is supreme bliss, Who is power, Who is resplendent like lightening, Who is without disease, Who has a shining soft smile, Whose beautiful form is beyond artistry, Who inspires the intellect, Who is respected by knowledge, Who is wise, and Who is the only support for the worlds.[3]

I take shelter of Lakṣmī, Who is supreme bliss, Who is mild and full of compassion, Who is beyond the mundane-existence, Who is beautiful, Who is serene, Who has a beautiful decoration, Who is pleasing, Who is without pride, Who is blissful, Who is deft, and Who is the only support for the worlds.[4]

I bow to Lakṣmī, Who is supreme bliss, Who helps in forest, Who is revered by Śiva (Mahākāla), Who is auspicious, Whose limbs are like lotus, Who is beyond thought and reach, Who is the pleasure of Mukunda, Who is peaceful and praise-worthy, and Who is the only support for the worlds.[5]

I take shelter of Lakṣmī, Who is supreme bliss, Who is without a beginning, Who is without a hurdle, Who is supreme, Who is without an end, Who exists with and without form, Who is intelligence, Who is revered by sages, Who is absorbed in righteous acts, and Who is the only support for the worlds.[6]

I bow to Lakṣmī, Who is supreme bliss, Who is always divine Goddess, Who holds prosperity, Who is wished-for by the world, Who is without a fault, Who is free of Māyā, Who is Śriyā (consort of Viṣṇu), Jānakī (consort of Rāma) and Rukmiṇī (consort of Kṛṣṇa), Who has lotus in hands, and Who is the only support for the worlds.[7]

I take shelter of Lakṣmī, Who is supreme bliss, Who has lotus-like eyes, Who is born out of Ocean, Who has jewels in hands, Who bestows creation, Who is devoid of creation, Who is revered by the enemy of Kāmadeva or Anaṅga (Śiva) 1, Who is the consort of the Lord of Anaṅga (Viṣṇu), and Who is the only support for the worlds.[8]

Footnotes:

1 Kāmadeva was burnt by the third eye of Śiva when he was trying to incite liking for Pārvatī in Śiva. Since then Kāmadeva is known as Anaṅga — one without a body. Later, Kāmadeva took birth as Aniruddha from Rukmiṇī and Kṛṣṇa.
